Who’s Fact Checking Political Ads These Days?

It’s time stations should stop showing political ads unless they fact-check them. So, why can’t local stations say no to horrendous false ads? It’s the money, money, money as always. It makes me ill.

Money talks. My local television channels post their edited version of social media political headlines. 96% of the airtime is about weather, sports, and upcoming social events. They repeat the same “news” the following morning and still at lunchtime. So, it’s repetition at its worst when you see equal but not equal time for political candidates with the party in power in my red state slinging mud at any Democrat campaigning.

This is my Thursday vent. I’ve always been angry that television ads (even on the weather channel and local news) show a politician we know is lying about his opponent with doctored photos. The print at the bottom of the screen cannot be seen without a magnifying glass. If you take a screenshot to blow it up, you never really know who is paying to deceive the viewers. In 2016, 2020, 2022, and now even worse.

In 2024 the Trump-Republican wing has filled the airwaves with lies about his accomplishments and slammed his opponents’ achievements. His constant character assassinations and downright sewer talk gets laughs, not reprimands. His base is kept busy hiding his felonies and sex crimes. He gets a pass from channels, churches, and good old boys who love to denigrate women, blacks, Jews, Hispanics, indigenous Americans, public schools, and fossil fuel billionaires.

Where are the television fact-checkers for political ads? At the bank? I think so! No wonder our children don’t understand the difference between truth and fiction if their parents cannot detect manure. I have noticed most maga ads are about gender equality and saving your children from immigrants and criminals from South America like every viewer lives in the border. Whipping up fear with lies is the old Republican “smear and jeer” method that goes back decades. Trump and his minions have magnified it. Tragic.

I could go on, but you get it already. We must not let Trump Republicans steal any more oxygen in the room in 2024 and after. Americans need clean air unspoiled by the rants of a very sick leader ready to sell us all out to the highest bidder. His daughter, sons, and son-in-law must also not steal our oxygen and never set foot in the White House.

There must be a remote Russian island somewhere large enough to take the Trumps, their maga fan base, teams of lawyers, legislators, Fox reporters, white nationalists, racists and quasi-Christian ministers so that their fascist utopia can thrive. Musk could captain a ship with them all to space and never return.

Otherwise, why can’t these people play nice and just act like they care about the rest of us? They aren’t capable because the dollar signs in their eyes blind them to reality, decency, and love for humankind. They are the ugly Americans that other countries make jokes about.

Today’s 🐶 distraction: one suspicious vegetarian! The breeder suggested frozen celery pieces to help teething. After playing with for 15 minutes, Winnie began shedding and eating the celery. We shall see how that comes out later, literally. I’m not sure it tasted good, but who knows!

Bonus: a wee video of our 3+ month old puppy who is food-oriented. Training continues! She loves her orange ball!

Peace and good will for these last few days before the election we must win! I know we have all been on a scary roller coaster for far too long, and we want Kamala Harris and Tim Walz to keep our spirits up and our country safer from foreign oligarchs and domestic wannabe power grabbers.

May we never have another January 5th insurrection by election deniers; and may election deniers Trump and Vance see the sane voters’ rejection of their nefarious Project 2025. Vote Blue for a kinder, freer, decent and joyful America. We can do this!
