I think it’s worse today than last week. We miss him so much. We’re looking for a pup but it’s not easy. From puppies to adult or rehoming, no bearded collies or rescues in the eastern US. Depressing. We looked at little 20 pounders but they’re not cuddly like our 75 pound Paddy.🥲

I am so sorry. I lost a dog a few weeks ago. They are never with us long enough.

Harvey was a true gentleman in every way. He had a spleen tumor and rather than having a catastrophic bleed out in front of me he let me take him to the vet and give him a quiet and gentle passing.

He came to live with me when he was 7 and we were together for 5 years. He leaves a hole in the family as they always do when they have to go, but I cannot be without a dog.

Luckily I still have Hildy. She is 5 and came to me when she was 18 months so hopefully we still have a long time together.

Again, I am so sorry. No one who has not been through it can truly understand how hard it is.

Thanks, Susan. I’m glad you have Hildy! We are seeking a rescue or pup. We need puppy breath💕

Contact breeders of the breeds you prefer. They often have dogs of their breeding returned to them when their original people cannot keep them anymore due to life changes. That’s how I got Harvey. He was returned to his breeder and she rehomed him to me. If they are active show breeders they may also have retired show dogs they would like to place in a home. There may or may not be an adoption fee for these dogs. Depends on the breeder.

We did the same with our current dog. It worked out better than we could have imagined. A Sheriff who was single-parenting two kids got her, trained her, but just couldn’t keep her, so returned her to breeder. So at six months old, this smart, affectionate fully-trained people-focused dog became ours. We thank our stars daily.

Due to my physical challenges in the aftermath of a disabling stroke, I can no longer handle a puppy. I have put the word out to breeders of the breeds I like that I am available for rehoming an adult or young adult dog or a special needs dog as long as the dog’s disability is something I can handle with my own disability.

I am so sorry for your loss of your dear boy Paddy. It’s so very hard to have to lose our beloved dog friends. He looks like a complete sweetheart, even when not feeling well. No doubt you gave him an amazingly loved life.

Sending love and hugs....there is no love like that of a pet and losing one is one of the deepest hurts there is. It's been almost two years and I still expect to see my beloved Maxie greet me when I come thru the door. When you are ready, I'd love to see more pics of Paddy and have you share more stories. Condolences.

Replacement dogs aren’t a thing. I cringe to hear another human casually say, “You can just get another one.” Paddy was a handsome one, but his love for you and personality must surely have registered the strongest. My dog buddy and I extend our deepest sympathies.

Some of us just can’t be without a dog. Once, 50 years ago, I lost a 16 year old dog and an 18 month old dog within hours of each other. Different reasons but a horrible day. For days afterward I hallucinated toenails clicking and saw shadows out of the corner of my eye. The dogs I get to prevent that are not “replacements”. They are beloved family members in their own right.

Yes, we have a painting of the 5 previous bearded collies which we loved, and our vet said they had the best lives any dog could ever want💕

Oh, Diane. I know how you feel. I’ve had to say goodbye to 3 “furbabies” in my adult life. Each one of them has a special place in my heart and always will.

Right now, our baby is Lily, our 6-year-old Cockapoo. I hope you treasure your memories, and find peace in them.

And, when you are ready to open your heart again, I hope you find another sweet soul to fill it.
