Today We Cry. . .💔for Paddy
Our bearded collie is 11 going on 12, and his mobility has declined in the past couple of months. Injections, pills, and treatments for spinal issues haven’t worked. He’s been a trooper.
If you’re a pet owner, you know what pain we are feeling today. The day. He’s been our baby for 11 1/2 years, and he’s been the best dog we have ever had. The last month has been touch and go. The vet told us in late May that we should prepare, but we treasured every cuddle and woof since then.
Our hearts are broken. I’ll probably post photos of the days before his hips gave out this past month. It’s been a daily sorrow of anticipation hoping pain meds would do the trick. Perhaps we were in denial. Shock of having no companion to talk to all day is sinking in. It’s so hard.
We are still numb this afternoon. The house is too quiet. My husband did not want to come home. But we did.
I could write a book and show you a library of lovely photos, but right now—we are numb and moving in slow motion. You know exactly what I mean.

“Paddy”
Saint Patrick's Loyal Ladde Blessing.
And he was our loyal boy who blessed us.
I think it’s worse today than last week. We miss him so much. We’re looking for a pup but it’s not easy. From puppies to adult or rehoming, no bearded collies or rescues in the eastern US. Depressing. We looked at little 20 pounders but they’re not cuddly like our 75 pound Paddy.🥲
I am so sorry. I lost a dog a few weeks ago. They are never with us long enough.
Harvey was a true gentleman in every way. He had a spleen tumor and rather than having a catastrophic bleed out in front of me he let me take him to the vet and give him a quiet and gentle passing.
He came to live with me when he was 7 and we were together for 5 years. He leaves a hole in the family as they always do when they have to go, but I cannot be without a dog.
Luckily I still have Hildy. She is 5 and came to me when she was 18 months so hopefully we still have a long time together.
Again, I am so sorry. No one who has not been through it can truly understand how hard it is.
