Exciting to welcome a new sweetheart! Paddy would approve...such a handsome dog he was! ❤️

As I have said to others in similar circumstances, Paddy did not put all that work into making you great dog owners for it all to go to waste.

Congratulations!

Have you made the vet appointment and signed up for training?

Because veterinarians all seem to be booked weeks in advance these days.

We are in good shape there. It’s difficult to get help training, but that’s what YouTube is for!

I’m a childless dog mom and a sucker for a puppy pic. I turn into a puddle of feels for any puppy. Winnie looks like a sweet girl, congrats! Your Paddy reminds me of the dog I grew up with, Danielle, who was a mix of sheepdog/terrier/collie. She was overly territorial and only made friends with humans that brought her treats, but we loved her no less. A new puppy is a new chapter, with fun and joy and love on the horizon. Seems like an apt parallel right now during these eventful times.

It’s an honor to Paddy’s memory that he was so special and such a good dog that you would want another. I’m so happy for you. Winnie is adorable and I’m hoping you’ll share more pics after her arrival!

What does that mean? People have limits on puppy photos?

🤣🤣🤣

Congratulations! She is adorable. I wrestled with the same dilemma after my best girl died in February. I planned to adopt an adult dog, but a puppy in need became available, and here I am with two large, lively dogs under the age of two, at a time when I am no longer young. Sometimes I feel guilty that they are not in a family with children. However, we see lots of friends and neighbors, go hiking and swimming, so they are living a good life, even if I am a less than perfect companion. Have fun with Winnie!

How beautiful you have a sweet new girl puppy. It is the best homage to the ones who've flown up to give another dog the same kind of beautiful life you've given before. I read somewhere recently that when dogs are really little infant puppies, they are attached to dogs as primary family--and all through their lives they will have a great love of fellow furries. In the absence of humans, they will form packs. But what the research shows is that dogs and humans have traveled together for so long now that within six months of birth, a dog will seek a human with whom to live: that the *primary* family unit for a dog migrates from canine to human, and that dogs are happiest if they find a human primary companion or a whole family to whom they will attach, hopefully for life. In some incredibly vital way, we complete each other. What a lucky little puppy she is. And what a good person you are, Diane: it shines in everything you do.

I’m enjoying your pet planning vicariously. And my favorite book as a child was the originally illustrated version. BTW there’s interesting history of the bear’s name as created by A.A. Milne, so if anyone is interested in the gender issue you may look it up. We can name either girls or boys as Winnie.

I know Winifred (great-great aunt whose family had a dog named Winnie for her not Milne’s Winnie) and Winston Churchill lol😂. Our Winnie was originally named at birth as Marigold since 7 girls were a flower 🌸litter. Petunia and Violet I think are waiting for adoption.
