I miss civilization….. Ok civility is what I tried to type. Yes they want to go back but they forget that their lies & actions would never Work Back in the Day!?!

Pamela, they want to go back to a time they have created in their heads —overlooking the factual realities of the past when things were always bad for the poor, the non-whites, the enslaved. History will look upon this time as the line in the sand—choose civility or criminality. Harris or Trump should be a no brainer for decent people on all sides of the aisle. Harris is hope, honor, civility and brains!💙🇺🇸💙

Excellent post, and your voice is clear and the emotion and sentiment shine through.

Some time back, I read an article in The Guardian which looked at the similar loss of decency in the UK. One reason cited was the lack of respect for the rules displayed by certain politicians. In particular, there was Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s cavalier attitude; especially during the pandemic with his Downing Street staff parties. These broke all the rules on social distancing and gatherings that the public were instructed to follow. Most of us were disgusted. Others started to think, “Well, if they don’t follow the rules, why should we?”.

Worse still is the tacit endorsement of political violence by politicians such as Nigel Farage and influencers like Elon Musk.

How we pull society back from the brink, particularly in the face of the climate crisis and wars, is one of our biggest problems.

Yes. From the start when Trump release his tax returns, it encouraged others to begin to think of possibilities. He lowered the bar for behavior, language, respect for rule of law. Disgusting. Thanks for your thoughts, Clare.

Aw, thanks, Diane, for your thoughts. I, too, am a big fan of Joyce as she really helps to distill all the complicated legalese and what is to happen next with the middle-schooler.

The future belongs to our youth and I love seeing so many engaged in making change. I often ask young restaurant servers if they are registered and if they will vote in the next election. Here in AZ it seems they are aware of the stakes… at least, I hope so.

Thank you for being aware. Thank you for being a teacher all those years. I am the daughter of two teachers who have passed on but gave their all. I’m glad they exited before seeing civility disappear.

Thanks again for your share. 💙

Thanks so much, Suzanne. I think we must lift up the young and undecided voters who feel it’s a “done deal—why vote?” Engagement is mandatory.

And I was going to ask if Winnie will vote? Great to hear your presentation, Diane. All your years in the classroom have made you a very effective communicator.

Thank you for today's thoughts. I'm not a teacher, but I could see the arrested child in 45 too. I don't want to die with him in control of anything either!

You and I agree with many others who have said the same. I had a friend die in February, and I felt worse that he didn’t live to see an end to Trump’s campaign. That’s sad.

It's not surprising that he stagnated at the junior high level. Remember he attended high school at New York Military Academy in Cornwall-on-Hudson where he was (or so I am told) hazed unmercifully so that even in later years as he became an upperclassman, he was still functioning at the level he had attained when he arrived. And to think that when I lived in Cornwall we looked up to those cadets when they marched in the Memorial Day parade.

I wonder if Trump marched with his bone spurs?

Yes, I remember when civility was the role. That's how I was brought up. After the 2016 election, the colleges I worked for saw an uptick in unacceptaqble behavior incidents. And these people were adults!!

I think educators have stories to tell about parents and students becoming more aggressive with what I term gutter language by Trump himself. A man canvassed my house today for Harris and local Democrats. He represented the Union support. Did we ever have a long chat!
