In many ways, I see this upcoming election cycle as less about convincing independent centrists and moderate republicans to vote blue.

It’s more about Democratic leaders demonstrating bipartisanship - giving moderate Republicans support where we can find common ground and thus building some measure of trust in our government processes in Republican voters and in turn in moderate Republicans to see that Democrats fight fair.

The Republican Party is in the middle of its own internal (un)civil war - and the more we as Dems and independent centrists demonize and shame Republican voters, the more they retreat - to the far right.

That’s the politics of fear, and autocrats like Trump and Christian Nationalist theocracy advocates like Mike Johnson feed on fear.

The worst thing we can do is make them feel desperate and afraid.

IMHO, the best thing we can do is act and talk like responsible, well -meaning, reasonable adults

Thank goodness, most Americans are reasonable but need to be better informed!

I blame NeoLiberalism, which believes that the Republicans and Democrats don't have that much to separate them—which is true enough if you're a NeoLib, but a filthy lie if you're anywhere Left of Ronald Reagan.

We need to rebuild the shredded social safety net (not destroy it utterly like the current Speaker is desperate to do!), offer our full throated support for women's and gay rights (not the half hearted "well, I suppose you have the right to an abortion if you have no other choice" and "we don't hate gays so long as they stay away from us"), and most significantly of all, tax the superrich! Every President from Ronald Reagan to Bill Clinton to Donald Trump has tried to lower taxes on the very wealthy and balance the budget on the backs of the poor and middle-income.

There are no "moderate Republicans" left in the Republican Party, just cowards and ideologues. Don't forget that those so-called "moderate voices" voted for a Religious Right election denier who wants to end Social Security, Medicare, Women's Choice, Marriage Equality, and believes that the First Amendment says the exact opposite of what it says it does.

No, the Democratic Party needs to stop hating on the Left and vote us in, because it's the Democratic Party that's the conservative party — the Republicans are just Nazis anymore!

Nice analogy Diane and I agree. These people are throwing temper tantrums about their entitled lives while most Americans struggle. It is unconscionable.

The members of the Republican Freedom Caucus of the US House of Representatives have publicly declared their allegiance to Donald Trump.

All of these Republican Freedom Caucus members need to be elected OUT OF OFFICE.

Here’s the list:

Yes - I was about to say well said also. But also that you’ve expressed the two sides in just the right imagery.
