I’ve noticed this too…the ‘hijacking’ of someone’s post…even though shared… going on and on about yourself/your issue!

That’s just rude, distracting and seemingly a way to get noticed. Please lmk if I ever do such a thing. Great vent…and absolutely necesaary, Diane! Thanks! 😊

My post was prompted by seeing some people going off on tangents to get attention—and they sadly picked some writers I love to attach their comments to. My blue feathers were ruffled!💙

Do I hafta?? I mean, taking stuff out of context proves (?) my point so much more neatly.

Seriously- thank you. I try always give proper attribution of quotes and images. Yes, I am one of those dreaded “Grammar Nazis”.

🤦🏻‍♀️ My sons used to cram their “Language Arts” homework to the bottom of their backpacks, hoping I’d not find it and they’d have to re-do something. Mea Culpa.

Haha! Thanks for your comment —grammar nazis are the only ones who care to write the very best (or was that a Hallmark card?) 🤣✍️☕️

Diane K24: Your thoughts always catch my respectful attention. As I write this, Nancy (my well-loved wife of 53 years together) and I have just finished dinner in „Old Street Cafe“ at 2000 Szentendre, Malna utca in the „Pest“ half of Budapest.

I value you well enough to greet you even as Nancy and I finished fine Magyar duck Brest and coffee and will go for a concert of Vivaldi in St. Michael’s Church, 1056 Vaci utca 47/B, 1056 a block away.

I repost your posts in my notes with the specific hope people will click to read your full post.

I hope I do it right!

Thanks!

Diane K24: You are the best, and I love your photos and learn much from you.

Our trip with our well-loved Daughter to Budapest is the best ever. I‘ll explain in a post next week.

Key point: Right along the Danube, it means everything to me that women and kids can walk with no fear or apprehension—confident and safe at all hours of the night.

That is NOT the case for major areas of Germany, much less, America.

The safety of dear ones who stroll along the Danube shore is exactly the way it should be everywhere, and I hope the Magyar NEVER lose that great blessing!

I traveled everywhere in Europe with friends or alone before I married, and I never felt threatened. The opposite: people wanted to practice English and recommend restaurants and sites I must visit.

Well said. I’m only a reader/commenter not an author on Substack. I have noticed some authors have stopped posting and restacking using the Notes feature because they state conversations can easily go sideways and seem out of context. Context and giving credit are both very important.

Thanks, Michael G. It’s tedious to be so careful, but I think it’s important to steer away from inauthenticity and repost to get likes for the commenter instead of the original author. ✍️

Yes, well ranted, to quote Joe. He said it best.

As a reader on Substack I often feel like it's difficult to follow a thread or topic among multiple people and wish that writers would quote and link more often.

Thanks, NickS! I agree. You can always trust Joyce Vance and Heather Cox Richardson to credit properly. There are others of course, but some writers are too quick to assume anyone wants to read beyond the titles or quotes. For us serious readers, more is needed.

As a writer who has seen his stuff posted on other peoples' web pages without credit or permission, I take this VERY SERIOUSLY.
